In the port of Rotterdam, an innovative installation is being built that contributes to the energy transition. One of our regular clients is working here to expand the production capacity of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. At the same time, efforts are being made to structurally reduce CO\u2082 emissions, an important step toward a more sustainable industry.<\/h4>\n

Our colleague Mohamed works as scaffolding coordinator on this project, which is the extension of the previously published project Blue hydrogen production in Rotterdam BENK PROJECTS<\/a>. We spoke to him about his role, the technical challenges and his experience working in this demanding environment.<\/h4>\n

<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Technical innovation in practice<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The plant is being built on Merseyweg in the Botlek. Here hydrogen is produced from natural gas through the so-called SMR process (Steam Methane Reforming). During this process, CO\u2082 is released, which is captured using MDEA technology and stored via an underground network under the North Sea.<\/p>\n

The hydrogen gas is then purified with a Pressure Swing Adsorber (PSA) plant, compressed and transported underground to customers. The plant runs largely automatically; only during startup, maintenance or downtime is personnel physically required on site.<\/p>\n

Coordinating at a high level<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As scaffolding coordinator, Mohamed is responsible for the safe erection of scaffolding on site. A crucial position in an environment where hundreds of people are at work every day. \"Building safe scaffolding to all standards is a challenge I enjoy,\" he says.<\/p>\n

\"The coordination is complex: you work with several contractors at the same time in a relatively small space.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Daily meetings are held with other performers and safety officials to keep the work running smoothly. \"We have a tight schedule. Each phase must be completed on time, or the whole project will slide.\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

International experience as an added value<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mohamed has been working on this project through BENK PROJECTS since April 2025. Before that, he worked on projects in Egypt and Bahrain. \"I now have 14 years of experience in construction. I love working in different countries. Every region has its own rules, culture and approach. That makes it interesting.\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Man and craftsman<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Mohamed most appreciates the variety about his job. \"The challenge,\" he says without hesitation. \"Every day is just different. I love solving problems and organizing the work. Especially when everything goes safely and on schedule, it's satisfying.\"<\/p>\n

Finally, Mohamed emphasizes his appreciation for the cooperation with BENK PROJECTS.<\/p>\n
