Neste invests more than 3 billion in expansion projects in Rotterdam. BENK PROJECTS OCE provides technical expertise

Neste is taking an important step within the energy transition with the expansion of production capacity for renewable diesel (HVO100), sustainable jet fuel (SAF) and renewable raw materials for polymers and chemicals.

SAF

The modifications will enable the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), increasing capacity from 500,000 tons per year to 1.2 million tons per year. In doing so, they significantly expand the possibilities of helping the European aviation industry in the energy transition and reducing aviation emissions.

The total project involves an investment of more than 3 billion, with the aim of expanding the production capacity for renewable products in Rotterdam to 2.7 million tons per year. This will double the total capacity and completion of the project is scheduled for 2027.

Technological innovations

Neste uses its proprietary NEXBTL™ technology, which enables the conversion of a wide range of waste and residues into high-quality renewable fuels. This technology provides resource flexibility and contributes to lower carbon emissions.

Impact on sustainability and the future of the industry

With the expansion of its SAF production capacity, Neste is responding to the European ReFuelEU regulations, which require that from 2025, a minimum of 2% of jet fuel must consist of SAF, rising to 70% in 2050.By producing SAF, the aviation sector can significantly reduce its CO₂ emissions.
