HSE Manager
maintenance
Your position will be as follows
07:00. The barrier opens. You park next to the other project cars, grab your helmet and walk toward the cafeteria. Your first stop is the morning meeting with the shift leaders. Yesterday there was a minor nitrogen line failure, nothing serious, but something to discuss.
During the toolbox, you discuss the work planned for the day: welding at height, a confined space entry and a new contractor team starting today. You walk along to the jobsite to check that work permits are in order. Are the TRAs sharp enough? Is everyone properly instructed? You ask a few critical questions, check PPE's and make sure the right signs are in the right place.
By 9:30 you walk a safety round. You see a mechanic working without glasses and address him directly. Not to nag, but because you have to. Meanwhile, you make a note for the weekly report. Later that morning you join a consultation about a near miss from last week. Together with production and maintenance, you investigate the cause. You make adjustments where necessary and set out concrete improvement actions.
In the afternoon, you check the plans for the maintenance shutdown in two weeks: hundreds of extra people in the field. You know that this is the time when things will go wrong if you don't make tight arrangements. You switch with the contractors, adjust the permit process and make sure the DCMR and fire department know what's coming.
At the end of the day, you check the field one more time. You talk to operators, give a short instruction to a new shift and answer some emails. No day is the same, but one thing is clear: you make sure everyone goes home safely.
- Directing and coaching colleagues to ensure proper compliance with rules and procedures;
- Optimizing and securing HSE systems;
- Advise Operations, Customer Service and Commercial departments on quality, safety and environmental standards;
- Making others aware of the importance of safety and the environment and setting an example in this regard.
